Prof. D. P. Singh

Prof. D.P. Singh born in Uttar Pradesh on 20th August, 1960 and is currently serving as Professor of Environmental Science in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar (Central) University, Lucknow. He also worked as Head and Dean of School of Environmental Sciences, B. B. Ambedkar University, Lucknow, from June 2003-2014. Many of his research papers and books have been published. He has made significant contributions in the field of Stress Biology and Bioremediation. Prof. D.P. Singh has made outstanding contribution in field of Photosynthetic Research. In 1988, Prof. D.P. Singh started his academic career as lecturer in Microbiology, Bhopal University, Bhopal (M.P.) and then in 1994, as Reader in Microbiology, RML Avadh University, Faizabad (U.P.). He joined B.B. Ambedkar (Central) University, Lucknow in 1997 as a faculty in the School of Environmental Science. He was awarded prestigious Commonwealth post-doctoral fellowship in 1990 to work in the Department of Biochemistry at the University College of Swansea, U.K. He also worked in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Lancaster (U.K.) as visiting scientist. Main focus of his post-doctoral work was the study of signalling molecules under the influence of various Environmental stimuli. Prof. D.P. Singh also established the a separate Department of Environmental Microbiology under the School of Environmental Science as an Innovative subject sponsored by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi (2007). Under his dynamic leadership, the School of Environmental Science was granted handsome grant for infrastructural development of the school under the DST-FIST program
He has made significant contributions in the field of Stress Biology and Bioremediation. Prof. D.P. Singh has made outstanding contribution in field of Photosynthetic Research which has been very well documented in a review article entitled “Photosynthesis research in India: transition from yield physiology into molecular biology” published in Photosynthetic Research, (2003, 76: 435-450). He has authored more than 55 research papers, two books (Stress Physiology anf Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology) and several book chapters. His scientific contributions is very well recognized and cited by scientific community working in his research area. Besides he has done extensive work on microbial bioremediation of pesticides and heavy metals. Presently Prof. Singh's area of research interest includes biofuel and algal bioactive compounds of therapeutic importance. Prof. Singh supervised several research projects sponsored by different funding agencies. About 11 students have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his supervision. He has about 30 years of research experience and 24 years of Post-graduate teaching experience to his credit.
